Steppler, Roy

Roy Steppler  1935-2005

Roy was the first born of Arnold and Edna Steppler in the district of Deerwood (west of the town of Miami).  He was shy by nature, a farmer at heart, had a strong value for education, & a great pride of family.

Roy went to Deerwood school. As a teenager he boarded in Miami to attain his high school diploma.  In 1953, he graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Diploma in Agriculture.   Roy married hometown girl Lynne Devins (1956) and they raised three children (Deb, Dale, Heather).  They farmed in the Opawaka district close to the Deerwood district where he was raised.  Their home was in the town of Miami which was convenient for raising an active/involved family.  Roy’s winter jobs were caretaking the curling rink, driving truck for local companies, bookkeeping  & bartending at the local hotel.   We, his children & grandchildren will remember him for his shy smile, welcoming lap, & soft heart for babies (human, bunnies, fox, deer, & spoon bill ducks).

He passed on his strong values to his children and grandchildren.  At this time of inception of the Miami Community Foundation, we would like to make a charitable gift in his memory.  We feel strongly that he would be proud of this foundation initiative.  We, his children, were taught at an early age to build a savings account…exactly the philosophy of a community endowment fund like this.

Let it grow and take care of our home town forever!
